Overview

The Taxes feature in fusionCore automatically calculates and applies basic taxes during Order Entry. Tax is determined by the taxable status of the products in the order and by the rules you configure. This feature is managed through backend-driven configuration, so you can update tax behavior without code changes. You configure the feature by defining tax-related records (tax products and the conditions attached to them). At sale time, the tax engine creates tax lines automatically as taxable items are added to the order. The feature supports tax exemptions, flat and percentage-based rates, and automatic removal of tax lines when a taxable product is removed. Key benefits of the Taxes feature:
  • Automated Tax Application
    • Applies tax automatically during Order Entry based on each product’s taxable status and the rules you configure — no manual intervention is needed.
    • Supports tax rules based on the order’s Billing Country, State, City, and other fields by attaching a Condition to the tax product, allowing region-specific tax handling.
  • Product-Level Tax Control
    • Gives fine-grained control by marking each product as taxable or non-taxable, giving flexibility across product types and offerings.
  • Tax Exemption Handling
    • Charges $0 tax for individuals and organizations marked as exempt from tax, supporting your exemption policies without user errors.
  • Seamless Adjustments
    • Recalculates tax automatically when a taxable line’s price changes, and removes tax lines when the taxable product is removed.
  • Tax Line Visibility in Financial Docs
    • Includes tax details in invoices and receipts, supporting both summary tax and line-level tax breakdowns for transparency.
  • Portal and Checkout Compatibility
    • Displays tax amounts during portal checkout, giving end users clear visibility on final charges before payment.
  • Business Unit-Specific Tax
    • A tax product only applies to a taxable product in the same Business Unit. This ensures tax liabilities are assigned to the correct Business Unit. For example, if a product belongs to the Society of Innovators Business Unit, only tax products configured for Society of Innovators are considered during tax calculation.
